The Benefits of CranioSacral Therapy
How
can CranioSacral help me?
Because it acts on the
deepest
structures and organs of the nervous system, CranioSacral Therapy
influences motor, pain and coordination mechanisms, the digestive
system, the respiratory system, heart function and the endocrine
system. Receiving CranioSacral Therapy tends to be very relaxing, and
indeed positively pleasurable.

and other infant related conditions.
What does a
treatment involve?
CranioSacral
Therapy is a gentle,
non-invasive manipulative technique. Examination is performed by
testing for restrictions of movement in various parts of the
CranioSacral system and the body. It is possible to feel for the
CranioSacral system anywhere on the body, the easiest places being via
the bones of the skull, sacrum and coccyx. Then during treatment the
therapist applies a gentle pressure, rarely more than five grams or the
equivalent weight of a 1 Shekel coin, to relieve and remove the
restrictions, thus enabling the system to self-correct.
During most treatments the client will lie down on
their
back, however if this is not possible seated treatment is also
possible.
How long does a
session last?
A typical session
for an adult is
for one hour, but can last for longer. For a baby, infant or young
child under the age of 7 years old half an hour is usually preferred.
What
will I feel?
Often a person
will feel light and
relaxed. At times the client may also feel a release of tension in
their body, heat in areas of the body being treated, lightness in
joints or bones, sometimes their may also be a feeling of tension in
areas of the body which are being treated until a release is achieved.
On occasion people have been known to fall asleep or to feel nothing at
all – although this does not mean that healing is not
occurring.
How many treatments will I need?
As mentioned
above everyone reacts
to tension, injury and trauma in a different way and so even two people
who have the same illness may need different lengths of treatment. It
is usually for there to be a noticeable improvement in a persons
functioning within one or two sessions, but it can take longer,
depending on the state of health, discomfort and suffering associated
with the condition. Sometimes the changes may only be subtle or take a
while to be noticed. To achieve complete healing will depend on the
condition and how quickly the client’s body is able to heal
itself, which may be from two sessions to several months.
What
will happen afterwards?
After a session
of CST a person
may feel invigorated and energized, light headed for a short time, or
exactly as they did before, depending on the type of work that needs to
be done. A person can also feel relaxed and at ease, happier and
positive, limbs may feel freed up with a need to stretch. Often toxins
(such as caffeine, cigarette smoke, drug medication which may have been
taken in the past, etc.) which have been stored up in the body for
cause of this. To combat this it is recommended that people drink extra
water or fruit juices for a day or two after a session to
help
the body rid itself of these toxins. Due to the releases of tension in
body tissue achieved during treatments people may also sense that their
body feels different after a session. This is usually because the body
is now better aligned than it had been before the treatment.
