Do you suffer from chronic pain, back aches or stomach problems?
What is CranioSacral Therapy (CST)?
CranioSacral
Therapy is a light and gentle therapy, it is non invasive and a
hands-on manipulative therapy which works on the bones, muscles and
tissues of the body and was developed by Dr John Upledger in the USA.
CranioSacral
Therapy is based around the flow of fluid produced in the middle of the
brain called CerebroSpinal Fluid (CSF). This fluid surrounds the brain
and the nerves of the spinal cord providing them with nutrition and
removing waste and dead cells, it is effectively the
‘blood’ of the Central Nervous System (CNS). By applying
light pressures to bones and body tissue the therapist is able to
improve the flow of CSF around the brain and spine. The treatment
improves the body’s ability to heal by allowing for enhanced
movement of fluids, nutrients, blood and oxygen to the body’s
organs, muscles and the CNS. A s
the nerves are one of the major ways that information is related from
organs and body tissue to the brain, and vice versa, an improvement in
the nervous system will lead to improved body function, and set free
the body’s innate ability to heal itself, leading to better
health and relief of pain and bodily dysfunction.
The
name CranioSacral is derived from the system's associated bones.
Included are those of the skull, face and mouth - which make up the
cranium -- the spinal column, and finally the sacrum bone. The meninges
membranes, water tight layers of tissue, enclose the CSF in a hydraulic
system connect the craniosacral system.
CST is performed with the client fully clothed.
