Do you suffer from chronic pain, back aches or stomach problems?
Jaw problems, TMJ and orthodontics
There are many forms of jaw pain and problems that can be effectively treated using craniosacral therapy.
Pain in the jaw joint (TemporoMandibular Joint - TMJ) can be alleviated with out the need for surgery. Possible tension in the muscles from the head (temporalis) to the jaw can load the TMJ with extra tensions and adversely affect the joint and its disc. If this becomes stretched the mouth may not return to it's properly position and this can be the cause of the pain in the joint.
People can also suffer from general pain in and around the jaw and it's joint, which doctors may not be able to explain or treat effectively.
Stress to the jaw muscles can also be the cause of stress and general high levels of tension that a person may experience. This is due to the centrality of the jaw muscles to the Reticular Alarm System of the nervous system.
CranioSacral therapy enhances Orthodontic treatment
Many times people in need of orthodontic treatment have turned to CranioSacral therapy to assist the dental process they are receiving. CST is able to help relieve the pain to the mouth and teeth when new wires are placed into the fixed appliances. As one of the premises for CST is that a gentle, light pressure applied over a long time is best to achieve healing in the body, a course of treatment for the teeth can speed up the actions of the orthodontic appliances and reduce the number of treatments required. In one study craniosacral therapy was able to achieve a 7mm change in the position of the teeth of patients over a six month period without the use of orthodontic devices – the usual movement achieved by orthodontic appliances is 2 cm. CST reduces the pain caused by orthodontic appliances, and can shorten the period of treatment, saving you expensive dental bills.
Realigning the Jaw
When treated with CranioSacral Therapy the muscles of the skull become relaxed, allowing the jaw to return to its correct position vis a vis the rest of the skull, reducing the pressures on the disc in the mouth joint and decreasing stress and pressure to on the nervous system.
The treatment is gentle and the light pressure is often relaxing and highly effective at reducing pain and realigning the mouth.
